THE DEVIL ON ALL SIDES (2006, 2007)
by Fabrice Melquiot, trans. by Ben Yalom

The American premiere of French playwright Fabrice Melquiot’s haunting tragedy is set during the war in ex-Yugoslavia. Lorko, a Christian, falls in love with and marries Elma, a Muslim. As the war breaks out, Melquiot shows us the pressures on their love, their families, and the crumbling world around them in a style that seamlessly blends expressionism, poetry, fantasy, and raw reality.

Performances in San Francisco, Berkeley, and New York (PS 122)
